Meet our Volunteers

Our volunteers play a crucial role within Women in Mining Canada. They assist the Board of Directors in their duties and help ensure the organisation is run smoothly. Their contributions are greatly appreciated.

Jocelyn Rough

Finance Team
My name is Jocelyn Rough and I am a Staff Account at KPMG in the Energy and Natural Resources industry unit. I have a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting from Queen’s University, and am in the process of obtaining my CPA designation. I played Varsity Field Hockey during my time at Queen’s and continue to enjoy an active lifestyle in my spare time.

Peace Omini

Finance Team
Peace Omini is a senior consultant in the Energy and Natural Resources Unit at KPMG Toronto, at KPMG. She has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance. She has led the audits of different Oil and Gas and Mining Companies. She recently moved to Canada from Nigeria. While in Nigeria, she worked with KPMG and was involved in the audit of Upstream and Downstream Oil and Gas Companies, and Power Generation Companies as well. She currently volunteers with the Bookkeeping Committee of Women in Mining Canada.

Suzanne VanSligtenhorst

Communications Team
Suzanne VanSligtenhorst has almost thirty years of legal experience with both law firms and corporations. She joined New Gold in July 2019 as Corporate Law Clerk and is now Corporate Governance Associate. She is a Fellow of The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario and has sat on its Board of Directors for over ten years as Co-Chair of Education, Chair of Public Relations and most recently as Secretary to the Board. She is a recipient of the 2021 and 2020 Modern Governance 100, a program dedicated to the recognition of influential governance leaders who have demonstrated resilience, dedication and empathy in the face of complex and challenging times, when good governance matters more than ever.
She currently volunteers with the Communications Committee of Women in Mining Canada.

Uchitta Vashist

Chapters Team
Uchitta is the Principal Operational Technology Analyst at Lundin Mining Corporation. In her role, she is responsible for technology research, evaluation and analysis of digital technologies for automation of mining operations and process plants. Uchitta holds Masters in both Mining and Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University and has 4 years’ experience in the mining world which includes academic research, metallurgy operations & development projects, and most recently in operational technology. Apart from work, Uchitta loves volunteering and getting involved in community events. She was part of multiple student leadership roles at Queens including graduate council, international student support groups and is an amateur Bollywood dancer.

Zhaofeng You

Finance Team
Zhaofeng is a Staff Accountant at KPMG in the Energy and Natural Resources industry unit. She has a Master of Management and Professional Accounting Degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with University of Toronto. She has successfully completed her CPA Cumulative Final Exam and is in the process of obtaining her CPA designation. She has attended many events lead by KPMG's Women's Interchange Network, which promotes the advancement of women in the workplace. This will be Zhaofeng's first year volunteering with Women in Mining Canada.
