Ruby Brar

Communications Team
Ruby Brar is a Marketing Operations Manager. She holds an Honours BA in Communication, Culture & IT from the University of Toronto and a Digital Communications Diploma from Sheridan College. Ruby’s career has covered a number of diverse industries, from oil and gas, automotive software, manufacturing, and now the commodities, mining, and resource industries. She is passionate about digital and creative marketing, and takes pride in her ability to optimize and enhance conversion-driving content. With a personal interest in the arts, Ruby has always enjoyed bringing creativity and problem-solving to everything she does. Ruby joined Women in Mining Canada as a volunteer in April 2023.

Monica Danon-Schaffer

International & Research Teams
Monica is a fully bilingual (Spanish/English) mining safety professional who is used to working in many countries, cultures and harsh environments (elevations close to 5000 m above sea level). She has over 20 years of experience with H&S in mining and O&G industries which include senior safety leadership expertise providing opportunities to enhance and promote safety culture. In addition, she has overseen safety department restructuring to provide improved service to operations, champion of visible safety (felt) leadership by developing structures and needs of safety programs, coaching leaders in the field and empowering entire teams. Monica regularly coaches critical control verifications for fatality risk management and high potential risk incidents. She is a strategic thinker who drives continuous improvement and sustainable practices and has successfully managed multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary teams in several countries.

Avin Monji

Research Team
I'm Avin Monji, a PhD student in Materials Engineering at the University of Toronto, where I explore sustainable approaches to metal processing with a focus on astrometallurgy, vacuum purification, and thermodynamics. My work looks at how we can process materials more efficiently both on Earth and in space. Along the way, I’ve volunteered on mining-related projects and enjoyed seeing how research can connect to real-world challenges in the field. Teaching is also a big part of my journey. I’ve worked as a TA for courses like Thermodynamics and Life on Other Worlds, and I enjoy helping students connect the dots between theory and application. Outside the lab and classroom, I love connecting with people whether through collaborative work, casual conversation, or baking something sweet to share. I believe that strong communities and inclusive spaces are essential for innovation and growth in any industry.

Marie Plamondon

Awards Team
Marie Plamondon works at Suncor as the Dump and Structure Planner at Mildred Lake. She graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. Marie has a keen interest in business and project management, which supports her strategic thinking and planning skills. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and is learning Spanish and German. She is a proud member of WIMC and CIM and is committed to encouraging more women to enter the mining industry. She hopes to share her passion for the mining industry with the next generation, particularly women, as she progresses in her career.

Meghan Thebeau

Communication & Programming Teams
Meghan Thebeau is a Marketing Coordinator at Major Drilling based at their corporate headquarters in Moncton, New Brunswick. She holds a diploma in Graphic Design and has developed her career through roles that emphasize creative storytelling and design, stakeholder engagement, and campaign execution. Passionate about advancing the mining sector, she supports inclusive communications and community outreach as the Social Responsibility Lead on Major Drilling's Sustainability Committee. Meghan joined WIM Canada as a volunteer in April 2025.
