The nominations for the Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award are now open! The deadline is December 5, 2025 at 17:00 ET.
Candidates can either be nominated or self-nominate for the Award. Nominees must be women and must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution. Nominees must be Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis). Nominators and Nominees do not need to be a member of Women in Mining Canada or a member of a regional Women in Mining Chapter; however, they are encouraged to become a member through the Women in Mining Canada website (wimcanada.org) or regional Women in Mining Chapter websites. Current Women in Mining Canada board members are not eligible, nor are previous winners of the Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award. Persons who are currently employed or contracted by Women in Mining Canada are not eligible for consideration for the Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award, and may only be eligible after one year following their employment or contract period has ended. However, winners of other awards in the Trailblazer Awards Series are eligible, provided they meet all other criteria.
Nominators will answer two essay-type questions about the Nominee (max 1 page each):
- Why is the nominee interested in a career in the Canadian mining industry?
- How has the nominee supported and contributed to the advancement of other Indigenous people and/or women looking to have careers in the Canadian mining industry?
Working experience in the industry is an asset; however, it is not a requirement. All fields of study will be considered. Nominators are invited to include information about the Nominee’s personal character when answering the essay-type questions. For example, comments may include any of the following personal characteristics: leading by positive change, disruptor and innovator, visionary thinking and innovative approach to the industry, collegiality and team building, mentoring and coaching, authenticity and transparency, integrity and ethics, business acumen, etc.
Nomination Guidelines
Fill out the present form to submit a Nominee for consideration for the 2026 Women in Mining Canada Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award.
Each nomination will include:
- Nominator and Nominee contact information
- Complete resume/CV (max 2 pages)
- Transcript (unofficial transcripts are accepted; proof of enrollment will be accepted for new students)
- Essay answers to the questions above
Additional Information
Selection of the Women in Mining Canada Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award recipient will be made by the Indigenous Student Trailblazer Award Selection Committee and will subsequently be approved by the Women in Mining Canada Board of Directors, whose decision will be final. Selection will be based solely on the documentation submitted.
All results will be made public at the end of the month of February 2026, and candidates will be informed accordingly. Recipients and the Awards will be celebrated at the 2026 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual convention.

Les candidates peuvent soumettre leur candidature ou se présenter elles-mêmes. Les candidates doivent être des femmes inscrites dans un établissement d’enseignement postsecondaire canadien. Les candidates doivent être Autochtones (Première Nation, Inuit ou Métis). Il n’est pas nécessaire que les proposantes et les candidates soient membres de Women in Mining Canada ou d’un chapitre régionale de Women in Mining. Elles sont toutefois encouragées à adhérer à ce prix par l’intermédiaire du site web de Women in Mining Canada (wimcanada.org) ou des chapitres régionaux de Women in Mining. Les membres actuels du conseil d’administration de Women in Mining Canada, ainsi que les anciennes lauréates du Prix Pionnière Étudiante Autochtone, ne sont pas admissibles. Les personnes actuellement employées ou sous contrat par Women in Mining Canada ne sont pas admissibles au Prix Pionnière Étudiante et ne peuvent y être admissibles qu’un an après la fin de leur emploi ou de leur contrat. Toutefois, les lauréates d’autres prix de la série des Prix Pionnières sont admissibles, à condition de répondre à tous les autres critères.
Les personnes qui proposent une candidature répondront à deux questions de développement (maximum d’une page chacune) sur la candidate :
- Pourquoi la candidate souhaite-t-elle faire carrière dans l’industrie minière canadienne ?
- Comment la candidate a-t-elle soutenu et contribué à l’avancement d’autres personnes autochtones et/ou femmes souhaitant faire carrière dans l’industrie minière canadienne ?
Une expérience professionnelle dans l’industrie est un atout, mais n’est pas obligatoire. Tous les domaines d’études seront pris en considération. Les personnes qui proposent une candidature sont invitées à fournir des renseignements sur la personnalité de la candidate lorsqu’elles répondent aux questions de développement. Par exemple, les commentaires peuvent inclure les caractéristiques personnelles suivantes : leadership axé sur le changement positif, esprit perturbateur et innovateur, pensée visionnaire et approche novatrice de l’industrie, esprit de collégialité et esprit d’équipe, mentorat et coaching, authenticité et transparence, intégrité et éthique, sens des affaires, etc.

- Relevé de notes (les relevés de notes non officiels sont acceptés; une preuve d’inscription sera acceptée pour les nouvelles étudiantes)
- Réponses aux questions de développement ci-dessus
Informations supplémentaires
La sélection de la lauréate du Prix Pionnière Étudiante Autochtone de Women in Mining Canada sera effectuée par le comité de sélection du Prix Pionnière Étudiante Autochtone et sera ensuite approuvée par le conseil d’administration de Women in Mining Canada, dont la décision sera définitive. La sélection sera basée uniquement sur les documents soumis.
Tous les résultats seront rendus publics à la fin du mois de février 2026 et les candidates seront informés en conséquence. Les lauréates et les prix seront remis lors du congrès annuel 2026 du Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).
